AI search (an answer engine) is a search experience where, instead of a list of links, AI searches the web and answers directly with a summary and citations. Perplexity and the various vendors' AI modes are typical examples.
As users increasingly get a complete answer without clicking through to links, websites face a new challenge: structuring content so it is easy for AI to cite (LLMO / AEO).
