Frequently asked questions
How is AI API pricing determined?
Most LLMs set a per-1M-token rate for "input tokens" and "output tokens" separately and bill on a pay-as-you-go basis. The output rate is usually higher than the input rate.
Which AI API is the cheapest?
On a per-rate basis, DeepSeek's DeepSeek V4 Flash and similar models (input $0.14/1M) are in the low-price tier. Still, you should choose by performance and use case — use the simulator above to compare monthly costs for your actual usage.
What's a rough guide for token counts?
As a rough guide, English is about 1.3 tokens per word and Japanese is about 1 token per character. The longer the document, the more tokens — and the higher the cost.
